When it comes to picking a career there are a lot of great jobs that are out there, one of them is becoming a Dental Assistant. It is a small time investment for the schooling compared to other professions and it is a field that you will be able to make significant advances in if you choose too.

The primary role of the Dental Assistant involves assisting the Hygienist or the Dentist in routine procedures and surgeries. You may even be able to get a job as an Orthodontics assistant, which in many cases pay a little more than the Dental Assistant.

A Dental Assistant is responsible for the upkeep of the work space. It is the Dental Assistant’s responsibility to constantly stay on top of everything from the tool trays to the sink areas, to making sure that trash is disposed of properly.

Dental Assistants also take part in keeping the tools that are used or on the Dentist’s or Hygienist’s tray properly sterilized before and after each patient that comes into that office to get work done on their teeth.

So if this sounds like a job that you may be interested in pursuing, you will first have to get some training as a Dental Assistant. If you are lucky enough to find an office that offers on the job training, then you should jump at the opportunity as this is becoming a rarity these days because the competition for these jobs has become so fierce.

Depending on which state you are in, you will need anywhere from $2,000 to $6,000 for Dental Assistant training, and 6 months to a couple years for the schooling itself.

Working as a Dental Assistant you will always be learning new things as you will be right there with the Dentist or Hygienist during routine procedures and surgery. Actual on the job experience is always the best teacher though it getting the job will be easier once you have the proper training and credentials.
