Mind Mapping started out nearly 40 years ago as paper based, hand drawn technique that required a multi-colored pen and a pad of blank paper. These days you can now take the same process and do it on your computer using iMindMap which is one of the best Mind Mapping Software programs on the market.
The reason iMindMap works is because it is based on the hand drawn Mind Map process which is a reflection of the brain’s naturally information handling process. The brain likes to think in pictures and what iMindMap creates is a pictorial representation of a collection of ideas in a format that makes comprehension and recall of it easy for us.
So now instead of having to draw your mind maps on paper, iMindMap now allows you to do the very same thing and get the very same results but on your computer. But this software is far more than just a fancy graphics package, it also has some incredible features that tie in very neatly with the benefits of Mind Mapping. Most notable of these is the full integration with some of the popular workplace productivity suites such as Microsoft Office or the open source Open Office.
iMindMap comes in four versions. At the top end there is the Ultimate and Ultimate Plus variants – the only difference is that Plus comes with a bundle of additional resources separate to the software. The Professional is the mid-range variant and the basic version is called iMindMap Elements.
At the basic end of the spectrum of iMindMap variants, Elements is perfect for those at school, college or university. The Professional version meanwhile is the right variant for those in a job or running their own small business.
At the top of the range we have the Ultimate version of iMindMap. This differs from the Professional variant in that it has full integration with Microsoft Office and includes some advanced features that include project management and e-Learning Course building.
As with any new software you will need guidance on how to get the most out of it and there is comprehensive training available with a library of short and informative videos that take you step by step through the software’s functionality as well as walk you through ways of using it.
iMindmap does have a comprehensive in-built help facility that includes video tutorials embedded into the help menu. There are the usual tutorials on the basics of creating your first Mind Map as well as training on some of the advanced features. There are also some illustrated written guides that you can refer to once you have completed the video training.
If you prefer a more interactive approach to learning how to use iMindMap you might want to try some of the workshops that are available. It is recommended that you dig around the sofware first and try to work out for yourself how to get started because you will find the workshops far more beneficial if you do.
